Dr. Jessica McGhee
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Jessica McGhee grew up around Farmington, Maine and Scarborough Raceway. Her family bred, broke, trained, and raced Standardbred racehorses, and also bred Great Danes and Doberman Pinschers.
In 1997, her parents bought McGhees’ Mile (formerly Aiken Training Center), where Jessica began training Standardbred racehorses at age 12. Dr. McGhee greatly enjoyed caring for the goats, pigs, dogs, cats, and cattle on their family farm.
Upon high school graduation, Jessica attended Oklahoma Horseshoeing School. She also spent a few years campaigning for racehorses in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
In 2013, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina Aiken. Throughout her undergraduate years, she worked as a veterinary technician to gain clinical experience.
She proudly graduated from the University of Georgia with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May 2018.
In May 2019, Dr. McGhee decided to venture on her own and began McGhee Equine, LLC. This is her large animal ambulatory practice. In order to further her skills, Dr. McGhee obtained her equine acupuncture certification in June 2019 from the Chi Institute.
Hollow Creek Animal Hospital happily added Dr. McGhee to our staff in August 2019. This has further ignited her passion for veterinary medicine spanning across all species. Her special interests include emergency medicine and surgery in all species.
In her spare time, Dr. McGhee enjoys spending time with her two children, JT and Aspen. Somehow, she still finds the time to train Standardbred horses, ride, and love on her two dogs; Skip and Doc.
